US Foreign Policy on Iran

  • Sappören 25 Sprängkullsgatan Västra Götalands län, 411 23 Sweden (map)

Brännpunkt Europa invites you to an interesting lunch lecture about the US foreign policy on Iran and its withdrawal from the JCPOA.

The speaker will be Michael Rubin, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. He is a former Pentagon official who has lived in Iran, and other countries in the region. Michael is the author and co-author of several books exploring Iranian history, American diplomacy, and Kurdish studies. He has a Ph.D. and M.A. in history from Yale University.

Michael will talk about whether US-Iran reconciliation is possible. Iran is quickly becoming one of the most significant topics of disagreement between the United States and Europe. Why do U.S. policymakers distrust European outreach to Iran so much? Why was the Trump administration so hostile to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)? Is it possible not simply to renegotiate arms control agreements, but to actually bring rapprochement between Tehran and Washington? Can Europe play a role in bringing these adversaries together?

Date and time: 3rd of April, 12:15-13:15
Location: Sappören, Campus Haga, Sprängkullsgatan 25
