A few years ago minority issues and the situation of minorities, like the romani people, was widely spread across the news in Europe. Today it’s still an important question but it’s not as preset in the everyday news anymore. How does the EU work with these issues today and what is done to protect the rights of minorities in Europe?

At this seminar Soraya Post will talk about the situation of the romani people in Europe and how the EU works with questions related to minority groups.

Post became the Feminist initiative party's first elected MEP and the first Romani in Swedish history to be chosen as a candidate for a political party. She has been actively working for Roma rights in the European Parliament. Thanks to the resolution initiated by Soraya Post in 2015, the European Parliament recognized anti-Gypsyism for the first time, with overwhelming majority. The report also lead to EU recognition for the Memorial Day of the Roma genocide during World War II.

Soraya Post is a Swedish politician (Feminist initiative) and Member of the European Parliament, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, as well as the Subcommittee on Human Rights.
