Brännpunkt Europa welcomes you to our 5 Year Anniversary event on the 9th of May! To celebrate that Brännpunkt Europa has organised events at the University of Gothenburg for 5 years now, we offer an afternoon filled with many interesting lectures, fun quizzes and mingle!

16.00 - Mingle & Welcome speech in the entrance hall by Rebecca Timm, chair & Niklas Lönn, vice chair. 
- Introduction speech by Urban Strandberg, Director of the European Studies Programme at the University.

16.30 - Skype Lecture in A010/B009: “NATO’s role in Europe”
- with Dr. Gerlinde Niehus, Head of Engagement Section at PDD at NATO

17.15 - Mingle in entrance hall with short lectures
- The Migration crisis in EU: Alexandra Bousiou, postdoctoral student at the University of Gothenburg
- Maidan/Ukrainian revolution: Dr. Oksana Shmulyar Gréen, senior lecturer and researcher at the University of Gothenburg

18.15-19.00 - Lecture in Dragonen: “Beyond Europe; Pakistan From Above & Below” - with Mirzad Shahzad Akbar, Barrister at Lincoln’s Inn, founder of the Foundation for Fundamental Rights (FFR) in Islamabad

Biography speakers:
Dr Gerlinde Niehus is the head of the Engagement Section at NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division. Niehus directed communication strategies for the European Commission’s external relations and information society departements, until she joined NATO in 1999 and assumed her current position in 2008. Gerlinde Niehus holds a PhD in International Relations from Muenster University, Germany.

Alexandra Bousiou is a doctoral student at the department of Global Studies at the University of Gothenburg. Bousiou conducted field research on the refugee crisis in the Greek island of Lesbos. Her research focuses on the governance of asylum in the Southeastern European borders.

Dr Oksana Shmulyar Gréen is currently a senior lecturer and researcher at the department of Sociology and Work Science at the University of Gothenburg, where she got her PhD from. She is also an associated researcher at the Centre of European Research (CERGU). Oksana Gréen’s research focus on global work distribution, migration, gender studies, and parenting and welfare. 

Mirzad Shahrzad Akbar is the founder of the Foundation for Fundamental Rights (FFR) in Islamabad, an organisation that works towards the advancement, protection and enforcement of fundamental human rights in Pakistan. He previously worked as a prosecutor for the National Accountability Bureau, where he assisted in corruption cases against Pakistani officials, including former minister, army generals and Prime Minister. Shahzad currently holds a Reprieve Legal Fellowship.
