The Brexit Referendum - Context, arguments and political games

Guest: Michelle Cini, Professon at the University of Bristol

The UK's EU in/out referendum will take place on 23 June 2016, with the campaign proper being launched in mid-April of that year. In advance of the start of the formal campaign, both Leave and Remain camps are engaged in a process of news management, whilst harnessing information and misinformation for and against their political objective to stay in or depart from the EU. This talk will reflect on some of the background to the EU referendum, and will explore some of the issues, arguments, and political games that have been played in the early part of 2016 in the period following the announcement of the referendum date.
